Special Appearance from John Travolta as Hayseed Scout

If you hang around in the baseball statistics world, you know about Moneyball. For those not in the know, it tells the tale of how the Oakland Athletics were able to exploit specific weaknesses in the talent evaluation system to come up with a playoff team on the cheap. It's really quite interesting stuff. It is not, however, a good movie.

I realize that some yahoos made a movie out of Fast Food Nation, but the fact remains the same: books without plots make stupid movies. They're going to have to dump a plot in, and it's probably going to be about underdogs overcoming oppression and it's not going to have a lot to do with the As (who haven't won a World Series since 1989), at least in the real world, and it's terrifyingly likely to include credits like "Jamie Foxx as Joe Morgan" or "Al Pacino as George Steinbrenner".

This senseless trend must be stopped in its tracks.
